Our Firm
Founded in 2020, Map Design Studio is an international architectural lighting design firm. Our work focuses on shaping environments and creating a sense of place, using light to influence how spaces are perceived, experienced, and remembered. We approach light as an architectural material, developed collaboratively and informed by technology and design thinking. Each project balances atmosphere, clarity, and execution to support both design intent and the realities of the built environment.

Artemis Papadatou
Principal, Partner

Artemis Papadatou is the Principal of Map Design Studio, which she founded in 2020. She serves as the Lead Designer on each of the firm’s projects.
She has led lighting design and project direction for a range of globally recognized institutions, brands, and developers.
Born and raised in Athens Greece, Artemis received a Master’s in Architectural Engineering in 2006 from Democritus University of Thrace and a Master’s of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University of New York.
Alex Bertman

With over fifteen years of experience leading complex real estate projects in the luxury hospitality and development space, Alex brings a strategic and operational lens to the growth of Map Design Studio. He has worked closely with some of the world’s most respected developers, private equity firms, and hospitality brands, including Accor, Rosewood, Four Seasons, The Standard, and André Balazs Properties. Alex oversees operations and business strategy, ensuring the studio delivers work at the highest level while remaining efficient, disciplined, and aligned with client objectives.
Jung Eun Ra-Lee

Jung Eun Ra-Lee is a New York based lighting designer who joined Map Design Studio in 2022 with fifteen years of experience in the lighting design industry. Prior to joining Map, Jung worked with Kugler Ning Lighting as a senior associate. During her career, she has won several awards including a 2016 National IES Merit Award for the 1 Hotel South Beach and a 2015 IESNYC Lumen Award of Merit for the McKim, Mead & White Library.
Jung received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design.
Monica Llamas

Monica Llamas is a New York-based lighting designer with ten years of experience. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to the development of lighting designs for commercial, residential, hospitality, and institutional projects. As a member of IALD's NY Chapter board, Monica has a passionate interest in growing the lighting design community. Her passion has been recognized with multiple awards including the Lumen Award of Merit 2020, IES Illumination Special Citation Award 2020, 40 under 40 Lighting Magazine.
Born in Guatemala, Monica received a Bachelor’s in Architecture at Universidad Francisco Marroquin and an MFA in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design.
Seulki Kim

Seulki Kim is a lighting designer with eleven years of experience in the lighting design industry in New York. She has worked with various lighting design studios and has been involved in commercial, residential, hospitality and institutional projects. Her skill set spans across sustainable design and proficiency in various design software. She thrives in a team environment and brings a fresh eye to each unique project.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Seulki received a Bachelor’s in Interior Design at Pusan National University and an MFA in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design.
Anne Roca

Anne Roca joined Map Design Studio in 2022. Prior to joining Map, Anne worked with Loop Lighting as a junior designer.
Born in France, Anne received a Bachelor of Art's in Growth and Structure of Cities from Haverford College, and a double MFA in Lighting Design and Interior Design from Parsons School of Constructed Environments.
Athena Kotsaba

Athena Kotsaba is a lighting designer with twelve years of experience in the lighting design industry throughout Europe. She has previously worked with Eleftheria Deko in Athens, and several architectural firms in London prior to transitioning to lighting design.
Born in Athens, Greece, Athena received a Graduate Diploma in Architecture from Leeds Metropolitan University, UK and Master’s Degree in Lighting Design from Greece Open University (ΕΑΠ).
Qian Cheng
Designer

Qian Cheng is an Athens, Greece based lighting designer with a Master’s in Lighting Design and a Bachelor's in Architecture from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
She gained international experience at the Universität für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung Linz. Qian has also worked as a lighting designer for Eleftheria Deko and Associates in Athens and ZDP in Beijing, contributing her expertise to various architectural and lighting projects.
Iris Nourentini

Iris Nourentini is a NYC based designer specializing in landscape lighting design. She holds a Master's degree in Lighting Design and Multimedia from Hellenic Open University and a Bachelor's in Interior Architecture from the Technological Educational Institute of Athens.
With international experience at Politecnico di Milano, Iris has worked on residential and large-scale commercial projects as a senior designer at Greenways Landscape Architecture and as a freelancer in Athens. Her expertise spans all aspects of design from concept to completion, driven by a commitment to both creativity and technical precision.
Sié Avila-Salata
Designer

Sié Avila-Salata is a Miami-based lighting and architectural designer with a background spanning residential and commercial lighting, urban planning, and architecture. She joined Map in 2026.
Sié received a Bachelor's in Architecture and Interior Design and a Master's in Architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, where she was awarded Best Graduate of the Year and the Dean's Award for Best Master Thesis. Prior to transitioning into lighting design, she gained experience in architectural design and urban planning at Raumwerk GmbH in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt, and in project management consulting at Drees & Sommer.
Ivana Paparizou

Ivana Paparizou is an Athens-based lighting designer with six years of experience shaping lighting solutions across projects of diverse scales. With professional experience at Eleftheria Deko & Associates, HUB Kafkas Lighting Design and Innovation, and lighting design boutiques, she has developed expertise in lighting design and project coordination. Working across both design-focused and commercial lighting environments, she has cultivated a strong understanding of lighting products, technologies, and their role in creating meaningful spatial experiences.
She holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and a Master’s degree in Industrial Design from the University of the Aegean. Combining technical knowledge with a sensitivity to design, she approaches lighting as a dialogue between atmosphere, materiality, and precision, creating solutions that balance aesthetic expression with technical performance.
Eloísa Arregui

Eloísa Arregui is a Mexico City based cultural manager with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Universidad Castilla-La Mancha. She joined Map in 2025.
She has ten years of experience with managing creative projects. She has worked as gallery manager, art residency director, studio manager, and curator, collaborating on International exhibitions and projects for galleries, art fairs, museums, and private collections.
